Objectives of Project

Ex vivo expansion of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was the main objective of my project. The method developed by my research team utilized no external growth factors, a factor that sets apart our growth process from many other cell expansion experiments.

Suitable scaffolding materials for cells adhesion and structural support to theoritically be placed at the site of non-union were tested. These materials included a cross linked chitosan synthetic material, a non cross linked chitosan synthetic material, coral, and human bone fragements.

The plausibility of growing human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into congregated colonies was tested using 384 well hanging drop plates.
